Adam Lee built his superstar reputation as the owner and winemaker of Siduri. After selling Siduri to the Wagner family and completing a consulting period, Adam created Clarice Wine Company to "put the fun back into Pinot Noir!" He's also on a mission to present world-class Pinot Noirs in a more affordable range, giving countless folks a better chance to enjoy the fruits of his labor.
The fruit for Babs is sourced from three of John Wagner's Santa Barbara vineyards -- Peak Ranch and John Sebastiano Vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills and the Sierra Madre Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. If some of those vineyard names ring a bell, there's a good reason. Wine made with fruit sourced from these vineyards regularly score in the 95-98 point range with Parker, Spectator, and others!
In your glass, the Santa Maria Valley fruit's red berry notes join the darker richness of the Sta. Rita Hills fruit to produce a benchmark Santa Barbara Pinot Noir. Judicious use of whole clusters in the fermentation adds additional complexity and provides just the right note of tannin on the finish. Babs is the more relaxed side of Santa Barbara County – very serious, while fun, friendly, and delicious.
Tasting note from the winery:
Juicy red fruits dominate the nose, with subtle notes of umami and sandalwood. The palate reveals a fruitier side, with notes of bing cherry and pomegranate at the forefront. Bright acidity and minerality are balanced by partial whole cluster fermentation and a small amount of new oak, creating a long juicy finish.
