Here in the States, and additionally most of Europe, it's pretty unusual to come across a bottle of Beaujolais Blanc. This scarcity is primarily due to the region's wine laws -- the Beaujolais AOC allows for only fifteen percent of the region's production to be white wine. While this alone effectively limits the quantity of white wine, the region's proximity to Burgundy takes it even a step further.

Parts of the Beaujolais AOC overlap with the Mâcon, specifically the AOC's of Mâcon, Mâcon-Villages, Mâcon-Chaintré, Saint-Véran and even Pouilly-Fuissé. These overlapping areas in Beaujolais enjoy the same microclimate and terroir as its pricier neighbor, and given a choice, vignerons in Beaujolais will opt to label their wines with the Mâcon classifications. This simple choice in labeling is a no-brainer for the local Beaujolais vignerons and, in some cases, can double the amount they receive for their wine!

The Boulon's family vineyards fall just outside the overlapped area of Beaujolais and Mâcon, so the family cannot label their Beaujolais Blanc as Burgundy. Since their vineyards are just a stone's throw away from the Mâcon, their Chardonnay is grown on the same terroir and shares the same climate conditions. The result: their Beaujolai Blanc drinks like a $25 Chardonnay from the Mâcon1

Boulon Beaujolais Blanc is 100% un-oaked Chardonnay sourced from vineyards on the border of the cru village of Morgon. Very little is produced, and in most years, the entire production is purchased by markets in the European Union.

If you're a fan of White Burgundy or top-quality un-oaked West Coast Chardonnay, this wine is for you! Aromatically, this wine is exceptionally expressive, with notes of pineapple and melon vaulting from the glass. The super fresh palate is engaging, with more bright melon fruit and tropical notes leading through the lengthy finish.

Seriously, this is every bit as good as wines at twice the price from France and the U.S. Stock up on this one while we have it!
