In 1997, Bordeaux over-achiever Peter Kwok added Château Haut-Brisson to his collection of top-notch Bordeaux estates and along with his children Elaine, Karen and son Howard, continue to manage the property.  It's located in the south of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, in the three communes of Saint-Émilion, Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens and Vignonet.
The 16 hectares vineyards at Haut-Brisson are planted on gravel and gravel-sand soils, providing the mineral-rich backbone to the estate's wines. All 16 acres of the estate are farmed organically, and the fruit is manually harvested.
93 Points James Suckling
This is such a friendly and enjoyable red with crushed berries and chocolate, as well as walnut aromas and flavors. It's full and flavorful with a fine-tannined texture. Success. A blend of 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Drink in 2022, but already a beauty.
93 Points Vinous
The 2017 Haut-Brisson possesses striking aromatic presence and freshness to match its mid-weight, sensual personality. Dark red fruit, cedar, tobacco and licorice infuse the 2017 with lovely character and complexity. This is very nicely done. Readers will find a tasty, open-knit Saint-Émilion that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring.
90 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Dark fruits, chocolate, new leather, and spice-driven aromas and flavors all emerge from the 2017 Chateau Haut Brisson, which is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, from more gravelly soils, that was raised in 35% new French oak. Nicely balanced, medium to full-bodied, and with a mouthfilling texture, it's a rounded, sexy 2017 that has loads to love. Give bottles a few years and enjoy over the following decade.
90 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Haut-Brisson slips seductively out of the glass with notes of warm plums, mulberries and Black Forest cake plus hints of chocolate box and star anise. Medium-bodied, the palate has bags of juicy black fruit and a plush texture with a refreshing lift to the finish.
