Champagne Legras Grand Cru Blanc de Blances
|Delivery time:||Same day Pickup|
This excellent grower Champagne had little or no presence in the U.S. until my broker friend Anne introduced us to their enchanting Blanc de Blancs. It's regularly poured at three-star-Michelin restaurants in Europe, with the bulk of their production going to the U.K. and Japan. I'm delighted to announce that we have a few six-packs available this week.
The Legras Champagne House was founded in 1662 by Pierre Legras, a contemporary and neighbor of Dom Pérignon. The property has passed from father to son for ten generations, and today Vincent Legras and his wife Marcelline are the current stewards of the vineyards and winery.
The Legras family owns 10 hectares of vineyards in the Grand Cru village of Chouilly, nestled in the center of the Cotes des Blancs. The winery is a short 10-minute drive south from Epernay on D3 and just a few blocks off Rue Domaine Pérignon. Like most grower-producers, their winery's exterior has a no-frills appearance allowing them to provide the most attention to the vineyards and winemaking!
The Legras Blanc de Blancs represents a fantastic value -- we're talking Grand Cru grower Champagne at the price of the entry-level wines from the big houses. In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs delivers gorgeous, citrusy aromas along with notes of baked bread, peach, and a wisp of smoke. The very fine bubbles are elegant and persistent on the palate, treating one with flavors of Meyer lemon, brioche, white pear, and oyster shell.
