Marquis del Silvo is a private label project I source from one of my favorite European connections -- the wife and husband team of Eva López and Ignacio Alonso. They have excellent relationships with top estates and vignerons throughout Spain, and their wines are always customer and staff favorites in our Spanish department. Since I sourced these more directly, it eliminates a lot of "nickels" tacked on by middlemen. This way, I can offer them to email subscribers and locals at the best price!
Spain may be best known for its wide-ranging styles of red wines; however, there are numerous shades of gorgeous pink wines produced here as well. The styles range from pale, zippy, thirst-quenchers, perfect for a chill, all the way to cellar-worthy oak-aged bronze-pink elixirs, yearning for an ideal food pairing. You'll find the same deep and vibrant history of Rosé production in Spain as you would in France or Italy.
In your glass, the Marquis del Silvo Rosado is a melange of delicate red berries and orchard fruit. Notes of strawberry, forest berry, raspberry, and peach meet a palate of vibrant red berry and white peach with just a whisper of orange zest. There's a gentle beam of subtle spice and earth, providing a nice foil to the vibrant fruit, keeping the lengthy finish nicely clean and dry.
We initially tasted this back in January and liked it a lot. Interestingly, the extra time in bottle has worked wonders for this Rosado -- I find it even more nicely balanced than I remember. Along with the porch, pool and patio, pair this one with seafood, shellfish, and white meats. This is also a particularly good Rosé for extinguishing the flames of spicy Cajun. BBQ, Thai, and Indian.
