Jean-Paul Daumen, the owner, and winemaker of Domaine la Vielle Julienne is an unabashed perfectionist. He may be a perfectionist; however, his winemaking philosophy is remarkably simple -- you'll make great wine with grapes from ancient vines when you exercise the bare minimum of intervention.

Ok, so it's really not entirely that simple. It also involves biodynamic and organic farming, minuscule yields from those organic, ancient vines, aging exclusively in neutral wood and tanks, no added sulfur while aging, and of course, no fining or filtering. In addition to his meticulous vineyard and winery practices, Jean-Paul only releases his wines when they're close to their peak.

If you're on the hunt for a perfectly aged bottle of red for the Holiday table, your search is over! This gorgeous Châteauneuf-du-Pape is drinking right at its peak, and it will be a perfect match for any savory stews, ragouts and will shine with steaks and chops.

I think a success in the vintage, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape les Trois Source comes from the same terroir as the Reserve cuvee and is 60% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. It reveals pretty black and blue fruits, leafy herbs, violets, and some Pinot Noir-like forest floor characteristics, as well as medium-bodied depth and an elegant, silky texture. It's not a blockbuster, but it's nicely balanced and has a sound underlying structure, all suggesting it will have 10-15 years of longevity.

Wine Spectator 91 Points
Well-built, with a nice chunky frame that will settle in soon enough, as the core of dark currant, plum, and raspberry paste flavors have ample depth. Dried anise, sweet tobacco, and warm ganache notes fill in through the finish. Fresh acidity lends support, giving this a sense of elegance to balance the heft.
