In 1939, 87 wine-growing families formed the Les Vignerons de Calvisson cooperative and began sharing resources to improve the quality and promote the region's wines. Today, the cooperative's vineyards span over 1500 hectares between Nîmes and the Mediterranean Coast.
The Bouix family is a member of the Les Vignerons de Calvisson cooperative and fifth-generation winegrowers in Calvisson. In addition to providing fruit to the village co-op, they own and harvest their own vineyards in the villages of Nages and Solorgues, just outside of Nîmes. Haut de Mourier comes from the family's 12 hectares of Viognier located in Les Mouriers, a tiny hamlet on the hillsides of Solorgues and Nages.
Viognier is a full-bodied white wine noted and prized for its vivid aromatics and its superb freshness balanced with a ripe, round density of fruit. It's often found in white Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape blends and is the main grape in the highly-prized Condrieu in the Northern Rhône.
Haut de Morier is a texbook example of Viognier from Languedoc. It opens in your glass with aromas of stone fruit and flowers, notably apricot, peach, violet, and honeysuckle. The palate is rich and dense, yet it retains the varietal's hallmark acidity. It's a rich and superbly satisfying white that pairs like a dream with spicy summer foods, Asian dishes, and of course, it's also a great all-around thirst-quencher.
