Corsica is an island of contradiction and diversity. It's officially regarded as a "Territorial Collectivity" of France; however, it leans decidedly towards Italy in the culture department. In addition to the cultural diversity, the Island features exceptional levels of biodiversity. Broad diurnal shifts, an alpine flavored maritime climate, and the schist, granite, and sandy soils all make this the perfect place to produce wine.

Here in the States, wines from Corsica are still rare and mostly off the radar of most wine-lovers. There's a good reason for that -- Corsicans like drinking their own wine, and folks there have been hard-pressed to part with any for export. Fortunately, over the last few years, more and more of the younger generation have returned home after working for vignerons in France. In addition to the new winemaking technology and techniques, they also return home with a renewed sense of pride for all things Corsican.

Domaine Campu Vecchiu is located on the eastern coast of Corsica in the Vin de Corse AOC. Fourth-generation vigneron Ange-Marie Robinet currently manages the estate, and he continues to modernize the family's production, allowing for a marked increase in export sales. As with most Corsican vignerons, he is eager to share his family's wine with the rest of the world.

The 2020 Domaine Campu Vecchiu Rosé is a gorgeous salmon-colored blend of local grapes -- 45% Sciaccarellu, 25% Niellucciu (Sangiovese) and 30% Grenache. In your glass, this charming Pink will undoubtedly remind you of Provence; however, there's a subtle hint of spice and garrigue similar to Pinks from the Rhône. Aromas of summer berries and citrus lead into a palate of red berry and pomegranate, all framed through the pleasingly dry finish by citrus and a touch of spice. Pair this one with anything summer!
