Syrah from the Northern Rhône generally gets all of the love and attention in the wine press; however, I've always felt there's something quite special about Syrah from the Southern Rhône. Syrah from Occitanie and the Southern Rhône is generally softer and more generous in fruit while maintaining the richness and depth of the varietal.

Syrah and Grenache are the two main work-horse grapes in Costières-de-Nîmes, and you'll find nearly an infinite number of ways the local vignerons blend these two grapes in their Cuvées. Syrah-centric blends are all about blue fruit notes with hints of roasted herbs and olive tapenade. Blends that feature Grenache lean towards peppery, red fruit notes that also feature hints of spice and garrigue.

Domaine du Prince is a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenach. The Syrah provides lovely density and depth of fruit, and the Grenache delivers a pleasant finishing lift. In your glass, notes of crushed dark berries and hints of roasted herbs on the nose invite you to a super-plush palate of black raspberry and blueberry. The extra-soft tannins on the finish make this a great Syrah for summer sipping, while it's also perfect when you want a fuller-bodied red to pair with your lighter summer fare.
