Encomienda de Cervera is a family-owned estate founded in 1758 and located in the Castilla-La Mancha region of central Spain. The family's estate currently consists of more than 1,000 hectares of property, almost evenly split between vineyards and olive groves.
The la Hoya de Cervera volcano is responsible for the area's distinctive terroir, and the region was designated a national monument in the early 1990s. The property's unique terroir combines red, chalky, volcanic soil and a classic wine-growing microclimate characterized by blisteringly hot days and cool evenings. It's a perfect place to grow all of the essential Spanish varietals.
While Tempranillo continues to be the most widely grown grape in the region's vineyards, the estate has branched out production to include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Graciano and Merlot. Graciano, a well-known blending grape in the Rioja region, has also recently been added to the vineyard plantings. When blended with Tempranillo, Graciano lends exceptional elegance and depth, providing lovely dark fruit notes and lush mouthfeel.
In your glass, you'll notice right away that this bang-for-the-buck Spanish red drinks way above its price point. Notes of red berry, cherry, and plum greet you on the nose and lead to a smooth palate of red fruit perfectly balanced by freshness and minerality. Pair this with grilled chops, BBQ, and your favorite spicy stews and ragouts.
