Guillaume Gonnet is no stranger to AWM customers, and his wines are the top customer favorite year after year. There's a good reason for that. Guillaume's home base is in Châteauneuf du Pape, and he's been the owner and winemaker of his family's property, Domaine Font de Michelle, since 2006. Guillaume and his Australian wife Kelly created the 'Guillaume Gonnet, Vigneron' label( better known to AWM customers as 'The Bird Label') to broaden the availability of the family's wines.

Before joining his family as 3rd generation winemaker, Guillaume traveled the globe, stopping to work in some of the world's most famous wineries. His experience working in Bordeaux, Burgundy, California's Napa Valley, New Zealand, and Australia provided Guillaume with an incredibly well-rounded foundation for his return to Châteauneuf du Pape.

Like his Lirac (aka, Blue Bird), Guillaume refers to Le Hardi as a “Baby Châteauneuf du Pape." It's an apt moniker since this Côtes du Rhône Villages is sourced from fifty-year-old vines located just outside of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards are planted on a south-facing plateau, and the soil is covered with golf ball-sized galets -- remarkably similar to the galet laden clay and limestone soil of Châteauneuf du Pape.

In the glass, deep, dark, black cherry and blackberry mingle with garrigue and spice, leading to a palate of dark cherry, red licorice, and plenty of savory, spicy notes in counterpoint to the powerful and delicious fruit. Enjoy this with all of your grilling adventures, rich, savory stews, and braised meats.
