Beginning in 1791, eight generations of the Miquel family have tended to their vineyard holdings located in the rolling hills of the Languedoc. Eight-generation vigneron Laurent Miquel is currently at the helm, and he successfully combines modern technological innovation and advances with the collected wisdom and traditions of his ancestors.
Laurent is considered one of Languedoc's premier innovators. His numerous progressive ideas include introducing a nitrogen bottling line that dramatically reduces the amount of added sulfites, naturally protects the wine from oxidation.
Laurent's Père et Fils Chardonnay is an excellent example of the tremendous value you'll find in the wines of South-West France. The grapes are sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Saint Chinian AOP and harvested entirely at night to avoid the punishing daytime heat. Short pruning to encourage low yields, gentle pressing of the hand-sorted harvest, and extra aging on the lees in stainless (without malolactic fermentation) contribute to the freshness and balance of this best buy white.
In the glass, aromas of white flowers, exotic fruits, and stone fruits open to a crisp palate of orchard fruit, white peach, and subtle citrus notes. I love the precise balance of fruit, acid, and minerality! This lovely un-oaked Chardonnay may be priced as a porch-sipper; however, you'll find this a great addition to your next dinner party or gathering. It will pair nicely with chicken, white meats, and white-fleshed seafood and provide an excellent complement to your summer soups and salads.
