Cortese di Gavi, or simply Gavi, is a classic dry Italian white produced entirely in the Piemonte Province of Alessandria. The limestone-rich soil and the gentle breeze from the Ligurian Sea provide the perfect conditions for the finicky Cortese grape.

The vineyards of Stefano Massone are located in the southeastern corner of Gavi. This corner of the Gavi DOCG is slightly warmer than the surrounding region and allows the native Cortese grape to achieve optimum ripeness.

In your glass, this 100% Cortese opens with aromas of white flowers, citrus, and yellow apple. On the palate, flavors of peach, melon, and citrus linger nicely with notes of minerality, finishing with good length and pleasing dryness. There's also a subtle hint of almond and marzipan that adds another layer of interest and complexity.

I find this perfect as an aperitif, and it would be terrific with any seafood and shellfish creation.
