If you're not familiar with Teroldego, you're not alone. It's another one of the seemingly bazillion Italian grapes that fly well under the radar for most wine-lovers.

Teroldego is grown exclusively in the Province of Trentino, located in the northeastern corner of Italy. It thrives in gently rolling hills and plains north of Trento and is made into the region's most prized red wine.

Teroldego is a deeply shaded red wine grape grown exclusively in northern Italy's mountainous Trentino wine region, where it is the main dark-skinned variety. The grape produces intensely pigmented red wines with soft, generous fruit in a style that has become a trademark for Trentino's vignerons. It is soft and needs minimal aging, usually being drunk within three to four years after bottling, though reserve-level wines hold well and improve in the cellar up to 10 years.

Cousins Carlo and Matteo Moser are the third generations to manage the family estate. Carlo, handles the business and sales duties at the property, while Matteo manages viticulture and winemaking. While fully respectful of the estate's long history of tradition and culture, they have been instrumental in introducing and implementing modern concepts in viticulture and winemaking.

After a swirl or two, in your glass, you're greeted with aromas of fresh red fruits, leading to a palate of red plum, cherry, and red currant. You'll enjoy hints of blueberry and a touch of balsamic through the middle palate, finishing with soft, earth tannins.

I find this to be a super-versatile red that would be at home with a wide variety of food pairings. Enjoy this with lighter red meats from the pan or grill, roasted birds, savory stews, and soups.
