While traditional wisdom might associate the Languedoc mainly with Rhône blends and varietals such as Grenache and Syrah, the region has recently embraced a new varietal -- Pinot Noir. While Pinot Noir is often considered fussy and climate-sensitive, there are indeed a handful of unique microclimates and select terroir in the Languedoc that have proven to be a friendly home. The best Pinot Noir in the Languedoc comes from these cooler sub-regions in higher altitudes. The Pinot Noir produced here is a lovely fusion of Old World charm with a subtle Mediterranean vibe.
Sourced from some of the highest-altitude vineyards near the Gassac River Valley, this smooth and lifted Pinot Noir drinks well above its modest price point. Moulin de Gassac has produced a textbook example of Pinot Noir's adaptability and tremendous potential in the sun-soaked Languedoc region.
In your glass, you'll enjoy a concert of smooth red fruits featuring notes of wild strawberries, ripe red cherries, and a nice hit of roasted Mediterranean herbs. Bright red fruit flavors roll through the middle palate, finishing in a mantle of soft tannins, complemented by an underlying earthiness and a delicate hint of spice and minerality.
Enjoy this terrific Pinot Noir with a slight chill while relaxing on the porch or patio. It's also super food-friendly and will shine with grilled or pan-seared salmon, game birds, grilled or roasted chicken, and pork tenderloin.
