While driving through Napa on the St. Helena Highway, you pass a seemingly infinite number of famous vineyards. Mile after mile, names read like an encyclopedia of wine in the Napa Valley. Ticen Ranch may not be one of those well-known, familiar names; however, they're certainly on the way to becoming one!

The winery sits on one of the most famous stretches of St. Helena Highway, between Raymond Vineyards and the Prisoner Wine company and just down the road from Inglenook, Grgich, and Whitehall Lane. For years, the property sold grapes to their famous neighbors -- most recently to Whitehall Lane for their Cab. That all changed when Jean-Charles Boisset recently acquired the property.

Ticen Ranch vineyards are part of the Boisset Family wine group, owned and managed by the powerhouse husband and wife duo Jean-Charles Boisset and Gina Gallo -- yes, that Gallo. Together they oversee a veritable whos-who of venerable properties on the West-Coast, including Raymond, Deloach, and Buena Vista. All of their properties, including Ticen Ranch, are certified under the Napa Green, organic and Biodynamic programs.

After a quick swirl and sip, you'll realize right away that this is a super-versatile Cab, ready for a steak, burger, or just a place to park your glass while relaxing on the porch. It's classically fashioned West Coast Cab, with just the right amount of oak influence to balance the lush fruit.

Blackberry, dark cherry and plum meet at the finish along with dusty cocoa and coffee notes. There's a gorgeous richness to this Cab; however, it's not a big, tannic blockbuster, so this is one to enjoy while you're waiting on your beefier Cabs to come along in the cellar.
