The Barbanera family estate in Tuscany was established in 1938 by Altero Barbanera and his wife Maria in the small village of Piazze, located in the commune of Cetona – where it is still based today. Over the years, they have expanded their vineyard holdings throughout all of Italy, including vineyards of Nero di Troia in Puglia.
Brothers Marco and Paolo Barbanera now run the family business. Although they have built the winery into a rather significant concern, their focus remains strictly on quality and tradition.
Nero di Troia is an ancient purple-skinned variety found in Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot. It’s the third most important red varietal in Puglia behind the more popular and widely distributed Primitivo and Negroamaro. Nero di Troia is grown amid the hills of the ‘Valle d’Itria’ between the Ionian and Adriatic seas, land of the ‘Trulli,’ old farms, vineyards, wines, and Baroque architecture. It's a charming place where tradition meets a vibrant wine-loving heritage.
This full-bodied red features notes of raspberry, cherry, dark forest fruits and plums, introducing a silky smooth finish of chocolate and aged balsamic. The super silky tannins make this a wine of pure pleasure to be enjoyed with or without food.
