Drink Better Pink for Less: CDR Rosé That Beats the Supermarket Prices

The Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse, Gard, and other off-the-radar regions in the South of France are an absolute treasure trove of authentic, well-crafted, and remarkably inexpensive gems. It's incredibly fertile ground for our beloved Tuesday Night Wines, and you can bet that I always have my sights set firmly on these regions.

Wines from Cave La Comtadine are a prime example of the fantastic bang-for-the-buck you get in this neck of the woods. Many AWM customers will remember the fabulous Rouge from this Co-Op; however, if you haven't tried their terrific Pink, you're in for a treat.

In 1930, twelve families from the village of Puyméras came together to form the Cave La Comtadine, a cooperative cellar dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditions of local viticulture. Wine-growing has long been the agricultural focus in Puyméras, and the culture and tradition of winemaking have been passed down through the generations.

The Comtadine cooperative vineyards are located between the Ouvèze and Aygues Rivers and share the gently rolling hills around the village of Puyméras with a mix of lavender fields, olive groves, and apricot trees. Close to three hundred families make their living through the Comtadine cooperative, tending thirteen hundred hectares of vineyards across the Drôme Provençale and northern Vaucluse.

This perfectly pale pink is clean, dry, and refreshingly lifted—precisely the kind of bottle we love to open on a sunny afternoon, or any afternoon, for that matter. In your glass, you'll enjoy notes of fresh strawberry and redcurrant, along with subtle hints of crisp melon. There's just the right minerality, keeping things lively and balanced through the finish. Simply put, it's the South of France in a glass—unpretentious, wildly affordable, delicious, and perfect for sharing with friends and family.

All of your classic Provencal Pink pairings will work like a charm. Some of our favorites include warm goat cheese and potato salad, grilled salmon drizzled with lemon and herbs, shrimp scampi, and prosciutto with melon. If you're feeling a little wild and crazy, pair with Vietnamese bánh mì sandwiches, Korean-style barbecue chicken wings, spicy fish tacos, or grilled watermelon and feta skewers.
