Pinot Noir from the Burgundy region pairs exceptionally well with the Thanksgiving table, and it's easy to see why. This wine's light to medium body, bright lift, and delicate tannins make it the perfect choice to complement the vast array of dishes typically enjoyed on Thanksgiving. The beautifully focused red fruit notes of cherry and raspberry ride on an earthy foundation of mushroom and forest floor that harmonizes like a champ with the tried-and-true Thanksgiving classics of roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, and herb-infused stuffing.
As a bonus, the natural brightness of Pinot Noir cuts through the richness of sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, refreshing the palate with each sip. Its subtle complexity also enhances the flavors of root vegetables and savory dishes without overwhelming them. I love how the subtle elegance of these red gems from Burgundy elevates the Thanksgiving experience. If this sounds like the perfect pairing for your Thanksgiving, then you'll love the Bourgogne Pinot Noir from the Poulleau family.
The village of Volnay is located in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy and is noted for producing some of the smoothest, most nuanced Pinot Noir in the Côte d'Or. Found between Meursault and Pommard, the appellation of Volnay was formed in 1937 and is home to only Pinot Noir.
Domaine Poulleau is a lovely 7.3-hectare Domaine located in the stunning village of Volnay. Michel Poulleau created the Domaine in 1950, and today, it is diligently managed by Michel's son, Thierry Poulleau, and his wife, Florence.
The Domaine owns vineyards in seven appellations, and ninety percent of their production is Pinot Noir, mostly from village appellated wines in Volnay along with Beaune, Chorey, Aloxe-Corton Charlemagne designations and also superb quality declassified Bourgogne.
Domaine Poulleau Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir is the Domaine's entry-level bottling; however, its pedigree and quality are far from entry-level. Fruit is sourced from 30 to 60-year-old vines, declassified from the family's holdings in Volnay, Meursault, and Savigny-lès-Beaune.
The bright red-ruby color opens to aromas of red berry and ripe red cherry in your glass, with just a whisper of tea and classic notes of forest floor. The palate is wonderfully silky and smooth and features gorgeous length, finishing with super-soft and perfectly ripe tannins. It's a beautiful introduction to this Domaine's wines, and we'll look forward to more from this terrific family.
If you're a Pinot Noir fan, especially Burgundy, you'll absolutely adore this at your Thanksgiving Table!
