The wait is over: the Pink Bird has landed! Guillaume Gonnet's Le Reveur Rosé --what staff and customers affectionately refer to as the "Pink Bird"-- has been our top-selling Rosé for the last eight years. There's a good reason for that: it's spectacular!
If you're a recent email subscriber and new to the "Bird" wines from Guillaume and Kelly Gonnet, here's a quick introduction.
Guillaume Gonnet is the super-talented owner and winemaker of Domaine Font du Michelle, a venerable estate nestled in the gorgeous town of Bedarrides, part of the celebrated Châteauneuf du Pape AOC. The Domaine has a rich history dating back to the 17th century, and Guillaume represents his family's 6th generation of winemakers.
Guillaume's wines display incredible nuance that is a nod to his deeply rooted knowledge of the region's history and terroir. Thanks to his unwavering commitment to quality and meticulous attention to detail, he has quickly become one of the most skilled vignerons in the Rhône Valley.
Guillaume and his wife Kelly have created a remarkable collection of wines known as the "Bird" series. This series showcases village-appellated wines from some of the finest terroir in the Rhône Valley, including Cairanne, Rasteau, Lirac, Tavel, and of course, Châteauneuf du Pape.
His wines truly reflect their respective terroir, each offering a unique expression of the region's diverse soils and microclimates. The "Bird" series demonstrates Guillaume's unwavering commitment to producing wines that capture the integrity of their origin while also showcasing his exceptional winemaking skills.
It's a safe bet that you'd find an outstanding Rosé among the delicious Gonnet Bird wines. Le Rêveur Côtes du Rhône Rosé is made using the saignée method, where a portion of the juice from the red grapes is bled off after limited skin contact, resulting in a signature pale pink hue.
Using the saignée method for Le Reveur Rosé creates a lively, refreshing wine reminiscent of the well-known Rosés from Provence. It is a testament to Guillaume's ability to harness the flavors and aromas of the Rhône Valley while creating a wine that pays homage to a beloved regional style.
In your glass, the Pink Bird teases the senses with enticing notes of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and delicate floral notes. As you savor this pale pink potion, you'll love the refreshing crispness that perfectly balances its lush, creamy texture. The long, satisfying finish leaves a lingering impression of ripe summer fruits mingling with a subtle spice touch. With its exceptional balance of pleasingly dry freshness and finesse, the Pink Bird once again stands out as a testament to Guillaume's deft hand in the vineyard and winery.
While we find the Pink Bird to be the ultimate pink porch pounder, it's an excellent choice for a multitude of food pairings. Its vibrant acidity and delicate fruitiness make it a versatile companion for fresh seafood, especially grilled shrimp, scallops, or a citrus-infused ceviche. It's also a no-brainer for light salads, goat cheese, and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Its dry and elegant profile can also provide a delightful contrast to spicy Asian cuisine while helping to extinguish the flames of spicy Tex-Mex and Cajun.
Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with food, the Pink Bird always delivers and elevates any summer day from ordinary to extraordinary!
