Costières de Nîmes is one of my favorite wine regions in southern France. The best wines from this region deliver bang-for-the-buck-value reminiscent of its neighbors in Languedoc to the west while showcasing wonderfully rustic garrigue-inspired complexity with bold, rich, and ripe fruit flavors. Originally classified as a part of the Languedoc, growers in Costières de Nîmes banded together in 1988 to have their wines reclassified as members of the more prestigious Rhone AOC - an effort that has paid off splendidly.

The wines of Costières de Nîmes vividly reflect the region's exceptional terroir. Lively acidity provides buoyancy and support for voluptuous, leathery, smooth tannins, and blackberry jamminess melds seamlessly into dark berry flavors framed by whispers of smoky spice.

In Costières de Nimes, the warm and gentle Mediterranean climate plays a pivotal role in the region's success in producing a wide range of varietals. The vigneron's palette here is rich and diverse, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Picpoul, and Ugni Blanc. This eclectic mix of varietals caught the attention of pioneer importers Bobby Katcher and Kermit Lynch, who were the first to introduce these tasty gems to wine lovers here in the States.

The region's red wines owe much of their complexity and character to garrigue -- the local term for the wild aromatic herbs, trees, and shrubs that grow in the area. There's no doubt that these signature flavors of the countryside make their way into the wines. From the wild floral aromas of rosemary and thyme to subtle hints of eucalyptus and pine, every sip perfectly presents Costières de Nimes terroir.

Twenty kilometers outside the historic center of Nîmes, you'll find Mas des Bressades, one of the most noteworthy producers in the Costières de Nîmes. The estate has been in the same family for six generations, firmly rooted in the stony hillsides of this stunning wine-growing region. Through the years, the family has refined an ideal balance of modern technology with old-school tradition and know-how in the vineyard and cellar. They produce exceptional wines appreciated worldwide while maintaining the integrity of their family's history in the region.

Mas des Bressades Tradition Rosé is a vibrant and expressive blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault. The electric pink hue immediately catches the eye, inviting you to indulge in the lively aromas of ripe red berries and fresh strawberries framed by hints of citrus zest and fresh herbs. On the palate, you'll love the gorgeous layers of raspberry, watermelon, and a touch of white peach, all balanced by a refreshing lift and brightness that leads to a perfectly dry, crisp, and clean finish.

This electric pink is the perfect companion for a wide range of fare and pairs like a champ with virtually all Mediterranean cuisine. We're especially fond of sipping it alongside grilled seafood, fresh salads, and tapas. It also complements spicy Thai or Indian curry since the wine's freshness provides balance to the heat. To press the ultimate easy-button for your next casual gathering, try it with a charcuterie board, featuring prosciutto, salami, and a selection of cheeses.
