Australia's Eden Valley is one of the country's most prized locations for growing Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. In contrast to the neighboring Barossa Valley, the higher elevation and temperate climate of the Eden Valley provide cooler nights year round, enabling a longer and more gradual ripening in the vineyard. The region's distinctively rocky soil and poor water retention challenge the vines, further concentrating the flavors and adding gorgeous depth and minerality to the wines.
Tarrawatta Wines is a collaborative project started by Nick Radford, a sixth-generation Barossa vigneron, and his neighbor and eventual business partner, Craig Isbel. Following his graduation from Roseworthy Agricultural College, a school recognized for producing Australia's top viticulturists and winemakers, he further enhanced his professional journey by taking on wine sales, marketing, and viticultural positions at a string of respected wineries, including Penfolds, Hardy's, and Rockford Wines. This wealth of experience enhanced his knowledge of everything related to wine and fueled his desire to own a vineyard in Barossa.
Nick's dream to become a vigneron in Barossa came to fruition in 2010 when he purchased his first vineyard property. This new venture set the stage for his partnership with friend and neighbor Craig Isbel, the winemaker at Torbreck Vineyards. The combination of Craig's expertise and innovative ideas in winemaking with Nick's extensive background in viticulture and sales was the perfect formula for the birth of Tarrawatta Wines.
In your glass, Tarrawatta Shiraz showcases the elegance and spice that Eden Valley Shiraz is known for. This wine presents layered aromas of dark fruits, black pepper, and subtle floral notes, leading to a palate that deftly balances power and richness with fresh elegance. A complex blend of blackberry, plum, and spices treats the palate with a hint of oak, adding depth and structure. Grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses make especially ideal pairings.
Tarrawatta Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the structured elegance that the grape can achieve in the Eden Valley. You're greeted with aromas of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, and whispers of eucalyptus, leading to a palate that marries intensity with finesse. The dark fruit on the palate is framed by subtle earthy notes and supported by present yet supple tannins. The finish is long and satisfying, with a lingering note of oak. Pair Tarrawatta Cabernet Sauvignon with your favorite roast lamb and beef tenderloin preparations, and enjoy with mature hard cheeses.
