In the world of private label projects for US importers, many wines are developed through partnerships with regional cooperatives or family-owned vineyards eager to broaden their reach into the American market. Often, these producers want to extend beyond their contractual obligations with national importers to achieve this goal without rocking the boat and disturbing the status quo.

How do I know this? Well, this is one of the ways I source wines, except I do it on a much smaller, more intimate level. This happy confluence is a win for everyone involved. The vigneron gets wider exposure for his tasty tipple, the wine lover gets quality at a reasonable price, and yours truly can make a nickel or two on it and keep the lights burning at the AWM.

The Little Sheep of France wines are a prime example of this collaborative spirit. This private label project draws selections from several village cooperatives across France, proving that well-managed coops can produce tasty wines that stand shoulder to shoulder with ones from single-owner estates. These wines reach retailers in the States with super-attractive pricing, something we're all looking for these days!

Little Sheep Viognier presents a luminous, straw-yellow color that perfectly alludes to vibrant character. In your glass, you'll enjoy an aromatic blend of ripe peach and apricot framed by hints of crushed white flowers. On the palate, flavors of white peach and a whisper of pineapple and mango are cradled in the wine's smooth texture. This medium-bodied Viognier is exceptionally refreshing and pairs well with dishes incorporating aromatic herbs and subtle spices—think lemon-herb chicken, grilled chicken with a peach salsa or even a lightly seasoned vegetable curry.

If you've shopped at the AWM, you know we rarely warm up to overly cutesy labels—especially those featuring fuzzy creatures—we routinely steer clear of them. In line with our never-say-never mantra, every rule has its exception; when a bottle with a playful, endearing label comes our way at a bargain and its contents are quality-driven, we're willing to make an exception. The Little Sheep wines are just this -- tasty, easy-going wines at the right price.
